Rupert Duffham Bussell was born in 1893 in Quirindi, nr Tamworth New South Wales, son of George Robert and Lydia Margaret BUSSELL (née DUFFHAM ?),
later of Henry Street, Gunnedah, New South Wales.

He enlisted at Liverpool (N.S.W.) on 1st August 1915, giving his age as 22 years 4 months, born Quirindi, father George Robert BUSSELL. He
was 5 feet 8.75 (174.7 cm)
inches tall weighed 134 lbs (61 kg), chest 31" to 34" (78,4 to 86.4 cm), brown eyes and hair, Church of England, profession - clerk.
Was with 30th Battalion 1st August to 1st September, 4th battalion from 2nd September to 16th February 1916. Embarked on HMAT "Warilda" from Sydney on 8th October 1915, joined Reinforcements at Tel el Kabir on 21st January 1916. when he was transferred to the 56th Battalion. He spent time in and out of hospital in Ismalia in March/April 1916 with blistered feet. Embarked on HMAT "Huntsend" in Alexandria on 16th June 1916 , landing Marseilles 29th June. On 20th July he received a severe gun shot wound to the head and was admitted to No 13 General Hospital Boulogne from where he was evacuated to England on "Jan Breydel" on 21st July. Admitted to Suffolk War Hospital, Ampton, Bury St. Edmund son 22nd July with severe gunshot wound to head and cerebral compression, he died of a cerebral haemorrhage on 25th July 1916 and was buried in the local churchyard at St Bartholomew's, Ingham His belongings, consisting :- Belt, knife, buttons, letter case with correspondence, rosary, Identity disc, pipe, prayer book, French book, FM Card, pencil , bullet, gas mask in case and 2 francs were sent to his father in Gunnedah, New South Wales. click here to go to another website for even more details
